 S.M.A.R.T. Choices for Success (Continued)

Today we continue with the second part of our Spring Break Series of inspirational insights from Deepak Chopra’s Success is Wholeness program. Monday’s post took a closer look at the meaning of the letter S, in our exploration of the acronym S-M-A-R-T (as outlined below) today we are examining the letters M and A and how we can learn to integrate these concepts into helping us make S.M.A.R.T. choices that are in alignment with successful actions.

S – Stretch more than you can reach
M – Make everything measurable
A – Agreement with your inner self and those around you
R – Record your progress
T – Time limits for acting and getting a result

The letter M reminds us to “make everything measurable.” For instance, when we get reliable, measurable feedback on our progress, we can then make more intelligent, informed decisions. Dr. Chopra suggests that when we evaluate our work in measurable terms, we are in a better place to remain in control of our progress and our time, as well as our resources. In other words, we are in a better position to decide when and where to cut back and how to redirect our focus and energy. Most significantly, when we make everything measurable, we will most likely make smart decisions that are in alignment with our ethics, values, and passionate goals. This strategy helps us maintain a flexible awareness which allows us to maintain alignment with our true purpose, while we monitor the circumstances and details of life so that we can make informed decisions. It’s like a navigator setting course to a new land, keeping apprised of the conditions of the wind, weather, waves, and currents along the journey.

In the S-M-A-R-T acronym, the letter A stands for “agreement with your inner self and those around you.” For example, when we think of the word agreement, we think of harmony, mutual support, and even love. Dr. Chopra contends that for there to be an agreement between the inner world of our values, goals, and beliefs, with the outer world, which tends to be full of contentious people with conflicting or toxic ideas, we should look for a deeper level of commonality. This is an effective method that can help us find agreements, because it is a strategy based on our personal connection to a concept of universality.

Well, that wraps things up for today! On Friday we will conclude our discussion on S.M.A.R.T. choices and will take a closer examination at the letters R and T and they affect our views on success and abundance. Until then … have a great weekend and stay organized!
