S.M.A.R.T. Choices for Success (Conclusion)
Today we conclude our Spring Break Series of inspirational insights from Dr. Deepak Chopra’s Success is Wholeness program. On Wednesday we examined the meaning of the letters M and A, today we will take a closer look at the letters R and T as we resume our exploration of the acronym S-M-A-R-T (as outlined below) and how we can learn to integrate these S.M.A.R.T. choices with successful actions.
S – Stretch more than you can reach
M – Make everything measurable
A – Agreement with your inner self and those around you
R – Record your progress
T – Time limits for acting and getting a result
The next letter in the acronym S-M-A-R-T is R. It stands for “record your progress.” When we engage in business or physical fitness training, keeping data on our progress helps us monitor our development. Dr. Chopra’s program asks us to contemplate what recording our progress means, however, in the context of our personal growth. By doing so, we can observe and acknowledge the inner growth that is transpiring. In other words, when we recognize and acknowledge the many ways we are transforming, we affirm that transformation and embrace the change as something real and significant to our personal evolution. Without this kind of focused affirmation and confirmation, subtle experiences can easily be dismissed and disregarded. When they are recorded, however, the mind registers these events which lead to smarter choices that continue to sprout like seeds that keep growing.
The last letter in S-M-A-R-T is T which represents “time limits.” Even though Chopra suggests that our true self is timeless, he reminds us that we live and experience our lives in sequential time. For that reason, he purports, we must also acknowledge and manage our time each day wisely. In this program, Dr. Chopra asks us to examine how we use our time so that we can successfully support our well-being and inner growth. He lists the following seven ways to spend time based on Dr. Daniel Siegel’s research:
• Sleep time – Getting a full night’s restful sleep
• Physical time – Taking time to move and let your body be active
• Focus time – Being alone for a while to concentrate on what matters to you
• Time in – Taking time for meditation, prayer, or self-reflection
• Time out – Setting aside time to simply to be here and rest into existence
• Play time – Time to have fun and enjoy yourself
• Connecting time – Intimate private time between you and those you love and care for
That concludes our examination this week of inspirational insights from Dr. Deepak Chopra’s Success is Wholeness program and the S.M.A.R.T. choices we can make to help us live more abundant successful lives. I hope you found this information as valuable as we did.
That’s a wrap for this week … have a great weekend everyone and stay organized!
